Ponisih once fled from the countryside on the island of Java, Indonesia, to the city. Hoping to build a better life, she left her dear home. But life in the city was not as enchanting as expected, and it was often filled with struggles and deprivation. It was time for a change yet again.

In the land of Gayo, where coffee is a currency, it used to be only men that could become coffee farmers. But that is no longer the case. More and more women take the center stage in coffee farming, roasting and business by forming into cooperatives to represent their voices.

On a serene hillside of Central Aceh in Gayo lies Arinagata Cooperative which is built on the ambition of many farmers to develop and alleviate coffee produced by local farmers to new heights. Finding a good market channel for their coffee has been the biggest challenge for these farmers.
